Audrey Leigh

Audrey Leigh joined Heart of Illinois ABC's Storm Alert in March 2020 as a Meteorologist.

A big city girl with a small town heart, Audrey was born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago and the second largest city in the state: Aurora, IL.

She attended a local community college in her hometown where she found her passion and dream career as a Meteorologist and Atmospheric Scientist. She later transferred to the University of Illinois where she studied Atmospheric Sciences. In May of 2020, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Audrey comes with many in-field experiences despite being a recent graduate: She was previously a weather intern at WCIA in Champaign, IL where worked along aside with on-air Meteorologists. She has storm chasing experience where she's seen multiple tornadoes, storm developments in the field, and has chased tornado alley. Her favorite experience was traveling to Argentina in 2018 to aid an international team of researchers for a $30 million funded global field campaign known as RELAMPAGO-CACTI. Here she collaborated with researchers across the world to study the most intense thunderstorms worldwide, and observed convective storms and their influence on high impact weather near the Andes mountains.

I am a total foodie and a mom of a beautiful rescued cat named Cosmic. I love all types of animals and would love to rescue a dog some day. I enjoy volunteering at local animal shelters, trying new recipes, and traveling to new places!
