PEORIA (HOI) - The death toll has risen to five after a COVID-19 outbreak that started in July at a Peoria long-term care facility.
A spokesperson at Apostolic Christian Skylines confirmed Tuesday that two residents, a man in his 90s and a woman in her 70, have died after testing positive for the coronravirus.
The spokesperson said most of the five residents who died were already in hospice care.
The first positive case happened July 25, according to the spokesperson. Since then, about 20 residents and about 40 staffers caught the infection. Eight cases, all residents, remain active.
The spokesperson said since the start of the pandemic, residents and staff have been tested twice a week. They're also cleaning on a regular basis, the spokesperson said.
