ST. LOUIS (HOI) -- The Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) announced Friday they will be changing the 2020-21 conference schedule to help reduce travel and focus on player and staff safety.
The decision impacts both Bradley and Illinois State Men's and Women's Basketball teams, who were all scheduled to start conference play in late December.
The new scheduling format would still have each team playing the normal 18-game conference schedule, but would have teams play in the same site on back-to-back days. Each team would have four home series, four away series, and then one home-and-home series.
"We have to be willing to adapt this season and be ready to compete no matter who we play, when we play and where we play. I am all for a scenario that helps us get as many league games in as possible and as of today, playing back-to-back days seems to be the smartest solution moving forward to accomplishing that goal," said Bradley Men's Basketball Head Coach Brian Wardle.
MVC officials say the conference season will begin after Christmas and will culminate in conference tournaments. The men's tournament will be played March 4-7 in St. Louis, and the women's tournament is scheduled for March 11-14 in Moline, IL.
