For 21 years, Mrs. Hinshaw has helped her students come up with the correct calculations in the classroom.
She says growing up, her father helped her fall in love with the numbers game.
"He was an accountant, so he always taught me math differently than the teachers did. I thought math was so, so hard, and I didn't like it very much. And then as I got going, I started seeing how much I use it."
Despite moving to online learning due to Covid-19, the 6th grade math teacher says her group of students remain positive.
"It's different, we all had a learning curve. The kids have really persevered through it, I think that our kids are going to learn what it's like to have to overcome different obstacles that come up."
Just one of many reasons why Heart of Illinois ABC and CEFCU are helping out with a $1,000 check for Hinshaw to use toward her classroom.
She says the money will go directly toward online math tools for her students.
"I'm super excited about getting some things with teaching equations. That is actually something that's been on my wish list. Now I need to create things that are going to be online. So there's a lot of different features that are out there and some things that we can do but they all cost money."
