Bloomington, IL (HOI) - District 87 has found a way to honor their swim coach that died in the Fall, naming the place where he spent so much time.
The Bloomington High School pool is now called the 'Bob Loy Natatorium', honoring the man who led the swim team for 40 years.
Loy was an All-American swimmer at Illinois State University, later coaching more than 120 students at all-state honors.
The BHS Athletic Department said in a memo to the board that "Coach Loy had the rare ability to challenge and push athletes to new levels of ability while also making it a fun and memorable experience."
School administrators said Loy also mentored many teachers during his career.
Loy died in October 2020. He was 65.
