Mrs. Williams teaches life skills special education classes at Tremont High School.

"We like to do a lot of hands on in here. We like to cook, go shopping."

That even includes things like ordering off a menu.

Williams says preparing her students during this school year remains extremely challenging due to the pandemic.

"We just have to do it on paper pencil in the classroom, or simulate, and so it's really been a challenge to get those activities in. But we still get it done."

Williams is not very fond of surprises, however this check presentation left her nearly speechless.

"I'm just I'm thrilled, I really honestly don't know what to say. And someone said, Don't start crying, I actually am very excited and very grateful."

Williams says she already has plans on how to spend the money.

"We're trying to improve our kitchen here, and so we're trying to get some more supplies for cooking. We go on community based instruction trips, so we can use it for that getting out into the community and doing more there."

Williams and her class thanks Heart of Illinois ABC and CEFCU.
