NORMAL (HOI) -- Illinois State came into tonight's ball game hoping to complete a sweep of Valparaiso and extend it's winning streak to 3 games. Things did not go as planned as the Redbirds allowed the Crusaders to score 29 points in the 3rd quarter, en route to a 75-58 loss.
"We've just got to get better," says ISU Head Coach Kristen Gillespie. "I told the team the tougher team was going to win today. And the toughness was the team that wanted to do the really hard things and unfortunately we're not there. We've got to get there but we just weren't that team today and it showed."
Illinois State, which is usually known for it's high volume of made three-pointer was held to just 28.8% from the floor and 20% from 3. Game one star Mary Crompton was 2-of-9 with 7 points, after posting a career-high 21 yesterday.
The Redbirds were competitive in the first-half, thanks in large part to Senior guard JUliunn Redmond who finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Redmond made her living at the line tonight making 9 of her 11 free throws.
After tonight's loss Illinois State falls to 6-3 overall and 3-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. They will play Evansville next Thursday.
