IWU opens basketball season with win against Carroll

WAUKESHA, WISCONSIN (HOI) -- The Illinois Wesleyan Women's Basketball team found out their season opener against Carroll was being postponed Saturday morning. The Men's team (1-0) was able to open the season on the road against Carroll (0-1) and earned a 74-59 victory.

It's the fifth straight season the Titans have opened up with a victory. Illinois Wesleyan shot 53.6% (30-56) from the field and 50% on three-pointers (8-16).

Junior guard Peter Lambesis led the Titans in scoring with 24 points (9-16 FG, 3-6 3PT), 3 assists, and 6 steals. Junior forward Matthew Leritz added in 15 points (7-13 FG, 1-2 3PT) and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Cory Noe had an efficient 12 points (5-6 FG, 1-2 3PT) and 3 assists.

IWU will go for the season series sweep of Carroll on Jan. 25 at the Shirk Center. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
