Utility assistance applications open for Pekin residents

Pekin, IL (HOI) - The city of Pekin is accepting applications for utility assistance. $500,000 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development will be used to help with unpaid electric, natural gas, water or waste bills.

It's part of the Community Development Block Grant to help with the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic.

Awards will be up to $1,000 for low to moderate income households and will be paid directly to the utility provider, not the applicant.

The bill payment dates have to be between August 2020 and January 2021.

Applications will be accepted through Friday March 19, 2021.


To qualify:
• Applicants must primarily live at the address for which utility assistance is being requested and that
property must be located within Pekin city limits;
• Applicants must be a homeowner or a renter with a written lease agreement;
• Applicants must meet household income requirements as described in the grant application; and
• Applicant households must have unpaid utility bills with original due dates occurring between
