COVID-19 update – April 7: Region 2 sees rolling positivity rate increase for 10th consecutive day

PEORIA (HOI) -- State public health officials on Wednesday are reporting 3,790 new COVID-19 cases, the highest-single day total since the end of January.

The latest report from the Illinois Department of Public Health brings the statewide total number of cases to 1,265,457.

An additional 28 deaths related to the virus are also being reported, bringing the state's death toll to 21,423.

Illinois' rolling positivity rate is being reported at 4.6% and Region 2, which includes the Peoria and Bloomington-Normal areas, is seeing its rate increase for the 10th consecutive day and is being reported at 6.8%.

As of Tuesday night, 1,710 individuals throughout the state were reportedly hospitalized with COVID-19, with 353 of those in the ICU and 142 on ventilators.

A total of 6,552,982 vaccines have been administered in Illinois, with 139,724 jabs given on Tuesday.

In the Tri-County area of Peoria, Tazewell and Woodford counties, 369 new COVID-19 cases are being reported for a total of 38,834.

No additional deaths related to the virus were announced Wednesday to leave the area's total at 602.

Peoria County is seeing the largest increase of new cases with 193 to raise its total to 19,652.

Tazewell County is adding 129 cases for a total of 14,972 and Woodford County's total increased to 4,210 with 47 additional cases reported.

Of the combined total of 38,834 cases throughout the three counties, 93% are considered recovered, while .2% are hospitalized and 5% are at home in isolation.

Area hospitals are reporting 40 ICU beds and 88 non-ICU beds are in use by those who have tested positive for COVID-19 and those who are under investigation of having the virus.

The hospitals are also reporting four more COVID-19-related deaths in the last 24 hours.


The McLean County Health Department is announcing 111 new cases of the virus to bring the county's total to 15,993.

The public health department is also reporting 39 county residents are hospitalized with COVID-19, 526 individuals are at home in isolation, but 15,216 are considered to be recovered at this time.

The county's rolling positivity rate is being reported at 5.7%.

Hospitals in McLean County are reporting 96% of ICU beds and 97% of all beds are in use.

Around 78,740 vaccines have been administered in the county.
