PEORIA, Ill. (HOI) -- A vacant Peoria home will be torn down Wednesday after an early morning fire.
Firefighters tell us it happened at 2:52 AM in the 700 block of MacQueen. When firefighters got there, they found heavy fire on both sides and in the back of the home.
While the home appeared to be vacant, Peoria Police Officers were told someone might be inside. A search turned up negative.
Battalion Chief Michael Hughes says firefighters had to use multiple ladders to get access to the second floor, after inside stairs were burned out.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, with the home being called a total loss.
No one was injured.
Hughes says the Peoria Building and Code Enforcement have determined the home is unsafe, and has scheduled an emergency demolition.
