LA SALLE (HOI) — Several families of the 36 veterans who died in a COVID-19 outbreak at the LaSalle Veterans' Home are now suing the state government.

Among those suing the state include the family of 90-year old Korean War Veteran Richard Cieski.

Attorney Michael Bonamarte says he and his team are representing around 20 of the families affected.

Bonamarte said with a case of this magnitude, it requires around 10 attorneys, clerks and assistants.

But, he says the Illinois Inspector General’s 50-page report released last week will play a big role, confirming the evidence in the case.

“You just see an utter systemic breakdown in terms of what was not done in this case, that really there is no excuse for,” said Bonamarte.

Bonamarte said he expects to file several more lawsuits over the coming weeks. He expects those cases may end being consolidated.

So far, the families have not made exact demands.
