Quite the surprise for Lincoln School counselor Mrs. Ratliff, who clearly was not expecting to receive $1,000 courtesy of Heart of Illinois ABC and CEFCU.
Since our last visit, it's safe to say, Mrs. Ratliff has been rather busy.
"I bought a group of books sets that ranged from many different topics. I just use them as like a whole group reading, like when I would go into the classrooms, and the students absolutely loved them."
Different books, with different stories, that Ratliff believes her students can relate to.
It eases like difficult conversations to have when we're not talking about a particular person or themselves, but we're talking about the character in the story that's fictional, but at the same time, very realistic to them."
Now with new material available, she's excited for the next group of students.
"I have a whole group new group of kindergartners coming in, so that will be fun. I love teaching through books, just because it, you know, it just makes it more comfortable."
