Susan G. Komen announces More than Pink events for 2021

PEORIA, Ill. (HOI) -- Susan G. Komen says its More than Pink walk in Peoria will take place in person this year, while the Bloomington event will remain virtual.

The news was announced during an interview Wednesday on Good Morning Illinois.

In a statement, Katie Cox explained that 2021 has been a transitional year for not only Komen, but live events in general.

"I know earlier this year it looked like all of our events would happen in the virtual space," Cox said. "Things happened very quickly. The country started reopening very quickly. More people are getting vaccinated. Komen did decide after taking careful consideration operational measures that we could pilot a few in-person events. Peoria was selected to be one of those in-person events," Cox added.

The Bloomington-Normal More than Pink event will take place virtually on Saturday, September 11th. The Peoria event takes place at the Metro Centre in Peoria on Saturday, October 2nd, which will help kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

"We anticipate this year to look like our last More than Pink event," Cox said about the upcoming Peoria event. "There may be some enhancements or edits because of health guidance, but we anticipate great commodity and community support, coming together for this common goal to raise critical funds for research and care for survivors, "Cox added.

Komen also says there will be virtual aspects to both events, including taking part in the event virtually.
