Fitness center in Morton honors 13 soldiers killed in Kabul bombing

MORTON (Heart of Illinois ABC) -- A fitness center in Morton hosted a memorial workout Saturday for the 13 service members killed in a suicide bombing at Kabul Airport in Afghanistan.

BRelentless Training and Sports Performance owner Justin Bolkema said he chose to dedicate the workout in gratitude to those soldiers and all of the members of military who put their lives on the line each day.

To reflect on the 13 who died in Kabul, the gym themed all of its workouts around the number 13 - 13 exercises, 13 reps, 13 rounds.

"Nothing we do today compares in any way shape or form to what all these people are doing for us every single day," Bolkema said. "This is just a moment for us to just pause and reflect and just really thing about all the sacrifices that they’ve made.”

Bolkema said he hoped Saturday's workout will represent unity and reflection.

He said he hoped people would walk away with gratitude - not just to those soldiers that fight for our protection each day, for the little things too.
