We head to the Twin Cities for Around Town this week.

Checking out an event hosting an epic gaming battle.

Top gamers have their target acquired to one Heart of Illinois destination.

PlayNormal eSPORTS in Bloomington is the place to be to see the areas top gamers battle on their respective screens.

“The tournament is based in Call of Duty Black Ops 4. It’s a tournament that has started in the St. Louis area and has come here, now in to Bloomington for the first time. So they are branching out of St. Louis into Illinois. We’ve got 24 teams coming, 5 players each, so 120ish people plus a bunch of coaches and fans and supporters are coming.”  says Jonathan Strupek of PlayNormal eSPORTS.

$5,000 is up for grabs to the winner, an event providing an opportunity to level up on the gaming scene.

“It’s an opportunity for them to compete locally, to get their name out there. This is turning into a career for a lot of people. people are going to school for this. People are turning this into jobs, and this is another opportunity to practice, to get seen and potentially turn this into something bigger.”

PlayNormal is going beyond just tournaments and events, it’s a place where gamers say they feel safe from bullying.

Terry Ballatini, owner of PlayNormal eSPORTS tells us quote, “We wanted to be a safe place, non bullying, but attract those eSports, those gamers to get them out of their basements. Not only play for fun but be competitive.”.

Providing the premiere entertainment destination, while also drawing in outside interest.

“The thing about eSPORTS is when people walk in here they go oh-wow-wooh! They didn’t expect this, some folks this is a gaming, gambling establishment because of the computers. As soon as they walk in here, they look at this and they turn around and they go oh my god what is this. What is eSports, it’s a matter of education more than anything else.”

The event presented by Midwest Arena eSPORTS starts at 9:00 a.m. Saturday and runs through Sunday.

The public is encouraged to come watch some of the best gamers in action battle head to head.
