Fulton County crash claims the life of 48-year-old Pekin man

Fulton County authorities say a wrong-way driver caused a Saturday night crash that left one man dead.

Shortly after 6 p.m. deputies were dispatched to a 2 vehicle accident at the intersection of US 24 Highway and McKinley road.

An investigation revealed that 48-year-old Ronald Grzanich Jr., of Pekin, was driving a small truck when he traveled into the oncoming lane of traffic and hit 62-year-old Steven McMahill’s vehicle head-on.

Grzanich died at the scene.

McMahill was thrown from the vehicle and taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center by Life Flight.

A passenger in his car was also injured and taken to OSF.

US 24 Highway was closed for about 3 hours while authorities conducted their investigation.

Members of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, Copperas Creek Fire and Rescue, Buckheart Fire and Rescue, Fulton County EMS, the Fulton County Coroner’s Office, and OSF Life Flight were on the scene.
