The next Greater Peoria Honor Flight is headed to Washington D.C., this week and to raise money for this and other flights the organization “Ten On The Wall” was at Hickory Grove Park for a benefit Sunday.
A pork chop dinner, a raffle and a dunk tank were at the park for anyone interested in helping fund the next flight.
Veterans will be headed to the nations capital to see war memorials including the Vietnam war memorial wall that has 10 Peoria residents on it.
“Ten On The Wall” said though the flight is free for them as veterans, they wanted to do their part by holding this and other fundraisers.
“On the ten on the wall, four of those guys i had classes with in high school so it’s personal for me. I knew those guys. I might have even drank a beer with them once in a while, in high school,” Veteran Bob Brophy said.
“Each one generally goes in as a young man 18, 19-years-old, they see things they would never normally see in the regular working force. So they deserve something for sacrificing those years,” Veteran Bob LaHood said.
“Ten On The Wall” is hoping to present the Greater Peoria Honor Fight with a check for 20,000 dollars by the next flight leaving in October.
