Peoria’s annual Heart & Stroke Ball for the American Heart Association brought together healthcare professionals, survivors and charity groups Saturday.
Heart disease remains the number one killer worldwide, with strokes coming in second.
Organizers say while raising money for cures and research is the main goal of the ball, the best way to avoid either is to think ahead and prevent conditions that lead to heart disease or stroke in the first place.
“I think the key of all this is infiltrating the right lifestyle habits,” said OSF Healthcare cardiologist Dr. Sudhir Mungee. “Prevention is better than cure.”
For the purposes of full disclosure, Heart of Illinois ABC’s Trish Cristakes was asked to emcee the event.
