Double motor fatality in Peoria under investigation

Two people have died and another is in the hospital after a violent car crash overnight in Peoria.

Peoria Police say around 4:12am they were called to the intersection of Sheridan and Eleanor to find three men involved in a single vehicle accident.

The vehicle, traveling Northbound on Sheridan, hit a utility pole so hard that it sheared. Police say the car then fishtailed and landed in nearby yard of someone’s home.

The driver, 29-year-old Cordero Henderson, was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. He was pronounced dead at 6:44am, inside the vehicle.

More details will be released Monday regarding Henderson, after an autopsy and toxicology test are completed.

The front seat passenger, 25-year-old Jeremy Burnside – also cited as not wearing a seat belt- had to be pried from the vehicle. He and a third, unidentified passenger, were immediately taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center; however Henderson was later pronounced dead at 9:18am as a result of multiple, traumatic blunt force internal injuries.

There’s still no word on the third passenger’s condition.

Police also add, speed was likely a factor in the crash. The department is still investigating.
