Monday night family and friends gathered at the intersection of Sheridan and Eleanor in Peoria where two men lost their lives over the weekend in a fatal car accident. Despite the rain, many came to say a prayer and share memories about the men they says they will never forget.

The accident occurred just after four Sunday Morning. It claimed the lives of the driver, 29 year old Cordero Henderson and 25 year old front seat passenger Jeremy Burnside. The two were cousins. Also in the car was Burnside’s little brother,  Julius. He survived and is still recovering in the hospital.

Burnside’s mother said he was dedicated to family and always put others first.

“He was just a happy go lucky kid. Very laid back, you know. Wasn’t a trouble child at all, just very happy all the time.” said Veronica Wright, Jeremy and Julius’s mom.

Overwhelmed by the tragedy if losing a son and a nephew she was at a loss for words but said she will miss how her son was always there to lift people up.

“His smile brightens up the day for everyone. If you were down all you needed was his smile and he’d give it to you.” said Wright.

Nearly two dozen family members and friends gathered to say a prayer and create a memorial. They all held fake candles because of the rain and hugged on another as they grieve.

While the loss is a shock to so many being so sudden, they said that the men’s light will continue to shine bright.
