63-year-old Theresa Ann Simmons died Saturday afternoon, less than a week after Peoria Police say she was found in her home, bleeding from the head.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood pronounced the woman dead at 4:54pm , stating that an autopsy would be scheduled for Monday morning.

Peoria Police had been called to the woman’s home in the 714 West Loucks Avenue last Monday, after reports of a woman was found lying on the floor, bleeding, after suffering a serious injury to the back of her head.

She was taken to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

28-year-old Jeremy Simmons allegedly hit her over the head with a hammer.

He was held on $750,000 bond after a hearing in Peoria County Circuit Court on Wednesday where he was charged with two counts, aggravated battery and attempted murder, but when she died, those charges were dropped and he was then charged with first degree murder.

He now has a bond of $2 million.

He is due back in court September 12th.
