(HOI) – The Red Cross of Central Illinois will soon introduce some local heroes.

The 15th annual Celebrating our Heroes event will be held November 7 in Bloomington and November 8 in Peoria.

The awards honors people who embody the mission of the American Red Cross by touching lives through acts of heroism and service.

“We also see people who we think do extraordinary acts and I can tell you not one single one of them sees themselves as a hero,” said Lyn Hruska, CEO of the central and southern Illinois region. “They think of themselves as doing the right thing at the right time.”

A total of eight winners from Peoria and Bloomington will be recognized.

One of those will actually be the group of Normal Community High School junior-varsity coaches and staff involved in a bus crash nearly a year ago.

Charlie Crabtree, who died in that crash, will be honored.
