(WJBC) — Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner is weighing in on the 2020 race for the White House by supporting South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg for the Democratic Presidential nomination.
Renner was among 54 U.S. mayors who signed onto an opinion piece in Wednesday’s edition of the USA Today.
The mayors say Buttigieg’s steady and inspired leadership has revitalized South Bend, putting practical solutions over partisan ideology. They say he’s become a role model and mentor to other mayors.
Renner told WJBC that Buttigieg is a mayor who gets things done, and that’s what’s needed in the White House.
Renner did not make an endorsement in the 2016 Presidential race, but he backed Evanston State Senator Daniel Biss for Governor in last year’s primary.
