Major league pitcher Zach McAllister delivered baseball equipment personally to the team at Von Steuben Middle School.
The Chillicothe native personally delivered new gloves, helmets, bats, balls and other equipment to the Vikings at the Central Illinois Torch Awards banquet. The Better Business Bureau of Central Illinois donated the equipment.
The team put out a plea for help in August after 29 players showed up with only six gloves to share amongst them.
“You can play ball all your life. It’s a path of opportunity that can take you places. College baseball teams have 25 to 30 players and many of them are on scholarship, so it is a very real path for a lot of people,” said Von Steuben baseball coach Brad Jacobson.
McAllister previously played for the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers. He is currently a free agent.
