Peoria Firefighters were called to 1311 W. Moss Ave. around 4:20 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. Fire officials said the house was being renovated to be turned into a bed and breakfast.
Fire officials said the fire was reported by a passerbyer. They said the fire started on the house’s exterior 2nd floor, where construction work was being done on the roof above the back porch, and spread to the attic area.
Fire crews were able to contain the fire in about 12 minutes upon arrival. They said the house is not a total loss, but some original wood floors were damaged, and the damage is estimated at $70,000.
Fire investigators believe the fire was accidental, and likely started because of the work being done to the house.
They said no one was in the house at the time the fire started, including construction workers. No firefighters were injured fighting the blaze.
