Richard Pryor Junior is back in his hometown promoting his new book, “In a Pryor Life.”
With raw emotion he tells us the good, the bad, and the ugly about growing up under a famous father.
Richard Pryor Junior grew up in many different parts of Peoria and he’s showing off his childhood in his new book.
“In a Pryor Life” doesn’t just show the perks of being the son of comedian Richard Pryor.
“You try to be your own person. You want to be your own person. You want people to recognize you as your own person and as an individual. I think a lot of times when you have a parent, like this is so and so, or bob’s son. You have to live with those things. This is on a grander scale, like when you have my father, who’s totally in the public eye, everyone knows who he is, you have to deal with that,” said Pryor Junior.
Richard Junior gives readers a raw tale of how he had to find his own spotlight.
“There are people who don’t accept who you are you regardless. They don’t see it. They don’t think you need the job. They don’t think you need the work. They don’t think you need the audition and that everything’s been handed to you,” he explained.
He isn’t shy about the topics in the book including, molestation, drug use, and living with his father’s troubles.
“It’s a total journey. It’s a roller coaster ride. Ups and Downs, Valleys, peaks, tunnels. You’re taking it all,” he said.
Richard Junior said you’ll feel the struggles, but you’ll feel the victory too!
