Washington basketball coach dies

Kevin Brown, the boys basketball coach at Washington Community High School, has died.

The Superintendent of Washington CHSD #308, Kyle Freeman, says Brown passed away Tuesday night.

The longtime Panther had been battling cancer since last year and underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor last summer.

“Our hearts are very broken today because we have lost one of our own,” Supt. Kyle Freeman said in a statement, “Kevin’s 15-year career as an educator and coach at WCHS had a great impact on thousands of students, and he was also a dear friend and colleague.”

Brown took the Washington baseball team to state for a third place finish in 2007, and one year later took the basketball team to state as well, where they finished fourth.

Information on funeral arrangements has not yet been released.
