BLOOMINGTON (HOI) — Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents were at the McClean County Jail this weekend to arrest an immigrant from Honduras who’s charged with a fatal hit and run.
Our news partner WJBC reports Jose Rodriguez, 27, was arrested by ICE agents Saturday when he was released on a $10,035 cash bond.
Now that ICE has taken Rodriguez into custody, the status of his criminal case is unknown.
Rodriguez is accused of driving a van without a license and running a red light at Main Street and MacArthur Avenue, when he hit and killed a motorcyclist, Corey Cottrell, June 22. He fled from the scene and surrendered the next day at the Bloomington Police Department.
WJBC also reports Cottrell’s estate has filed a separate civil lawsuit in McClean Count Court on behalf of his daughters, seeking more than $50,000 in damages from Rodriguez and his employer.
